Dry with milder temperatures for the next two days. A chance of a wintry mix on Friday.
Today’s question is for the viewers — Is it better to retire in Arizona, Florida, Michigan or somewhere else? This is my (Daughter #3’s) question, because I’m only in my 40s and still contemplating my options. My husband wants to move to the Tampa area someday, but is also open to Pensacola or Mobile. I love where we live right now, but I can see wanting to move away from a big city at some point.
I’ve been in both Arizona and New Mexico, though, and they’re really awesome, too. So much sun and dry weather. Plus I watched the entire Better Call Saul series, so I like New Mexico for that reason. I’ve also met people who retired to Panama, and retirement abroad sounds intriguing.
So I thought I’d get your input. I know we have some snowbirds in the group. Please tell me your pick and why! Thanks! - Michelle
Not many people look, but check out the tax structure of each state. It will make a huge difference in stretching your dollar once retired. New Mexico gives you 4 seasons, with a milder summer than Arizona and milder winter than Michigan. Also, low humidity (Florida is like a sweat factory with its high humidity). Really depends on what makes you happy and what activities you want to do. One caution on Florida- there are a LOT of people there now. Traffic, congestion and all of the things that come with lots of people are all part of the Floria experience.
Hey there,
It really depends on many factors for a move south. I lived in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for about 6 years. I loved it there especially the warmer climate. However, I could not see my family as easily. This was a big factor to move back to where I am currently located. You have to also deal with the humid (hot) conditions in the summer. It's not too bad if you are close to water and in air conditioning. The other factor to consider is the Hurricane season. At times you will have evacuate. I think it's important to consider all of factors.....no doubt the warmer weather in the South is a HUGE draw!
