A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for the counties in purple on the map above. This includes northern Indiana, northwest Ohio, northeast Illinois and the Michigan counties along and south of I-94. This includes Benton Harbor, South Haven, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Jackson, Ann Arbor, Detroit, South Bend and Chicago. The Advisory starts at 7 pm EST this Wednesday and continues until 10 am Thursday. The NWS says:
* WHAT...Freezing rain expected. Total ice accumulations from five hundredths of an inch to around one tenth of an inch. * WHERE...Portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan, northeast Illinois and northwest Ohio. * WHEN...From 7 PM EST /6 PM CST/ this evening to 10 AM EST /9 AM CST/ Thursday. * IMPACTS...Difficult travel conditions are possible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute.
North of the Advisory area we’ll see a little light mix of snow and light freezing rain or freezing drizzle and there could be slick spots Wed. night into mid-morning Thursday, especially on side streets, lesser-traveled rural roads, sidewalks, parking lots and driveways. Conditions will improve by late AM Thu. as temperatures rise above freezing.
A second and more impactful storm will move in Saturday PM. That could be more in the 3-6” accumulation range with a mix of freezing rain possible mainly south of Gr. Rapids
.The extended forecast looks chilly. These are the forecast highs and lows from the overnight run of the European model. This was the coldest January in the Lower 48 states since 1994 (31 years ago) and the cool trend will continue through mid-February.
Here’s the latest 8-14 Day Outlook. Cool will rule…from the West, across the Plains and Great Lakes and into the Northeast. For anyone heading south - it looks generally warm in central and southern Florida.
There’s a Marginal Chance of a Severe Thunderstorm this PM over parts of Kentucky an Tennessee. A non-severe storm is possible up to Fort Wayne and Cleveland…an also in western Oregon.
