The Winter Weather Advisory expired at 1 pm. However, a new advisory will likely be coming out within hours for the next system. That will spread snow across our area Friday night and Saturday.
Many roads are snow covered and slippery. Wind wind is gusting to 25-30 mph and that is causing some blowing and drifting snow. There are a number of closings.
There were 60 crashes and slide-offs between 3 pm and 10 pm Wednesday. At 4:40 pm, police were responding to at least a dozen crashes and slide-offs just in Kent County…including on US 131 south of 28th St.
Snowfall amounts in West Michigan ranged from a low of 2-3” in Kent and Ottawa County to 4-7” in the Lansing area. That does not include the snow we’ve had today. As of midnight, Grand Rapids was up to 57” of snow for the winter season. That’s nearly 10” more than we had all last winter.
A band of moderate to occasionally heavy snow is fell from Kansas to Michigan. The yellow color on the maps above and below indicates a computer model projection of 6-8” of total snowfall.
