Winter Storm Warning & Winter Weather Advisory
Lakeshore Counties Could See Another 10" of Snow
A quick note to start - As I type this (original thread - I’ve updated this thread since then) around 5:45 am on 1/22 (Wed.), the temperature in Grand Rapids MI is -5° with a wind chill of -25°. At the same time, it’s 16° in Fairbanks AK with a wind chill of +16° (wind is calm). So, it feels 41 degrees warmer in Fairbanks than Grand Rapids.
The Winter Storm Warning for the lakeshore counties from Holland to Leelanau Co. plus Newaygo and Lake Counties - and the Winter Weather Advisory for Berrien, Cass, Van Buren, Allegan, Mecosta and Osceola Counties will expire at 10 am this Thu.
Favorable lake-effect bands should produce 6-10” with up to 3-6” in the Advisory Counties. The snow will be accompanied by fairly strong southwest winds and that will cause considerable blowing and drifting snow, especially near Lake Michigan.
Thursday AM update: Muskegon officially had 10” of snow on Wednesday and a peak wind gust of 47 mph. Muskegon is now up to 32.9” of snowfall this month and 54.4” for the season, which is 5” above average.
Temperatures won’t be quite as cold, but will still remain colder than average through at least Friday (average is a high temperature of 30°). We’ll reach the low-mid 20s for Thursday and Friday.
