It was 40 below zero in Zeeland Thursday morning...not Zeeland Michigan. That was in Zeeland, North Dakota - population 82. You can see the -40° bottom center on the map below. That' s the first -40° in ND in over 3 years. Cook, Minnesota also made it down to -40°
The coldest wind chill factor was -62° at Linton ND. There were dozens of locations in the Dakotas and western Minnesota that had wind chill readings from -40° to -50°.
My wife lived in Mandan, North Dakota for a year, while her father worked there. She was 5 years old at the time. She can tell you about the winter cold, the howling wind and the "ground blizzards".
