Found out crossing a slippery snow-packed school parking lot-also covered in clear ice- that tennis shoes DO NOT grip on ice when it's soooo cold. I had to be rescued by the school principal who was out there helping kids over towards the cleared sidewalk. I was giggling so hard at not being able to make any progress from my car towards the building, that I just stood there with no momentum. So now I'm heeding my own advice to avoid those unexpected "slip and fall' events that you mentioned: Never again will I leave home without traction boots whenever the ground ices over.
