Severe Storms & Tornadoes in the South
Here’s a map showing storm reports from Sunday PM. A tornado report is indicated by a red dot on the map, a wind damage report by a blue dot and a severe hail report by a green dot.
There were 5 reported tornadoes, three in Mississippi and two in Arkansas. No injuries were reported. There were trees and power lines down and a little bit of structural damage. Several roofs were taken off and there was significant damage to two chicken houses at Rose Hill, Arkansas.
We have already had 151 reported tornadoes since Christmas, including the first tornado of the new year last Friday PM in northern California
On December 28-29, a total of 89 tornadoes were reported from Texas to North Carolina. On the map above, each red polygon is a tornado warning. Each white line is a tornado touchdown. There were 3 EF3 tornadoes and 3 EF2 tornadoes.
One fatality and four injuries occurred near Hillcrest in Brazoria County, Texas from an EF2 tornado. ]The same storm produced a large high-end EF3 tornado that traveled at least 50.32 miles (80.98 km) through Chambers and Jefferson counties in Texas, passing just south of Port Arthur and into Southern Louisiana.
